I have been reading online on how wonderful the Eduard 1/72 scale F6F hellcat kit is. So, when I saw a boxing of it that contained markings for some USMC birds I thought I would give it a try. I picked this up at Discount Hobbies and it is my first Eduard "profipack" kit. Looks like a nice kit, construction has started.....

Hey!! at least its Marine Corps..... ;D Some more about this kit..... The box art, this is the USN decal choice in the box. Other choices are a British fleet air arm machine and VMF 511, the first USMC night fighter sqd to deploy from a carrier. USS Block Island CVE-106. I like the VMF 511 bird except it has the standard 6 x .50 cal mgs. The final decal choice is Maj Porter, CO of VMF(N) 542, Maj Porter became an ace in this aircraft. I like this aircraft because it carried 2 x 20mm and 4 x .50cal guns. The decal sheet looks nice. The sprue shots..... The kit also contains colored p/e and canopy masks. The cockpit starting to come together.... The colored p/e on the panel....... hmmm, cheating or wow??

The cockpit looks impresive. Have you considered a black wash and some drybrushing to accentuate the detail? Otherwise, the PE makes it very realistic at this scale, it will look great when the fuselage is closed.

Back on the desk..... I have been working on the engine, p/e wiring harness is being added. I have no clue how it really was mounted, so I hope it will look ok when done. There are also two tiny data plates for the engine to apply. Next up will be some painting so I can glue things together after an inital coat of paint. I will have to touch up the paint later, but this the way I have decided to try this build. Usually I would glue the wings and tail first, then paint, but I feel there are somethings I wson't be able to paint if I do it that way on this model.

I started preping and painting this bird, I am using Vallejo Model Air dk sea blue for the late war camo. looks good when wet.... But dried a bit lighter than I want, still no problem as I have to sand the seams and spray a light second coat which should bring things to where I want.
