I saw a few pictures in one of the modeling mags on this kit, it looked pretty good. Went to Discount Hobbies this week and Karl had one in stock at $14.99. Not bad for a new tooled kit in 1/72 scale.
I must say I am very impressed by what is in the box, let me show you.....
Start with the box art, shows a plane from the Taranto raid...
The instruction sheet is pretty good, pictogram style mostly but with full color paint and decaling pages...
1st scheme from the box art...
2nd scheme from HMS Courageous in 1939.
The actual decal sheet.
4 sprues of parts....
Lets look at some of the parts that caught my eye....
The engine and part of the exhuast sysytem
forward part of the fuselage
underside of the fuselage
Notice that the wing roots are molded so the wings can be folded!
if you decide to fold the wings, there is an alignment tool to keep the center section of the wings straight while the glue dries...
The fuel tank
seperate elevator and rudder
radio for the cockpit
cockpit floor on the right and fuselage top on the left
the wings even have the rigging holes molded if you want to drill them and add the rigging
A choice of weapons is provided as you see on the 2 decal drawings, included is a nice looking trolley for the torpedo to sit on if desired.
Oops, I forgot to photo the clear parts, but there are two windscreens and clear light covers for the wings.
This looks to be a great kit for 15 bucks, especially considering the high price of a lot of the newer tooled 1/72 kits from other manufactures!
Great job Airfix!!
I will be starting this one soon and showing the build in the aircraft board here......
