Since I have one Panzer on the desk...... I might as well add another! This kit is the Tamiya, 1/35th scale Panzer IV H. It appears to be an older tool kit like the Panzer IV D built last year. It makes me appreciate the Panzer III I am building along with this one. I have some aftermarket decals for a tank of the Bulgarian Brigade in Sofia, 1944. The decal sheet shows a skirt only on the turret, but I like the looks of the Panzer IV with skirts all around, so this will have side and turret skirts. Otherwise out of the box with only home made improvments. I am thinking this will be a good test/practice model for the Panzer III.

Just a quick update to the twin Panzer builds..... Here is the progress up to now, I am slowing the Pz III waiting for the Pz IVH to get to the paint stage so painting and weathering can be done on both at the same time. What an ammazing difference in quality between these two Tamiya kits. New is so much more fun to build! More work after the IPMS meeting tonight.....

This build is pretty much done..... I don't know how much more weathering to add. I will look for some MIG powders at discount hobbies in a few days and add them for some mud and or dirt. The model has various artist oil washes on it so far. The decals are aftermarket by AFV decals, and are for the Bulgarian tank brigade in Sofia, 1944. I still need to work on the rubber band tracks..... how to paint them up now that they are on the model?

Dang........ someone noticed. Let's see... my excuse is ;D They arn't on the vehicle according to the decal sheet, but for me the Pz IV with a long barrel only looks good with the skirts. So, at the last minute I decided to put them on no matter "if" this tank didn't have them. I do need to practice ripping, tearing, denting and adding shot and shell damage before I tackle them anymore. Looking at the tank again today, I do have to agree with you though.

I will tell you a something! I stoped building historicly accurate about 17 years ago,I personnell build for my self, ! and what I like ,I do use referances and the internet for photos, after being a IPMS judge in new mexicoI got so fed up with the squabling on a well built model and seeing people screwed, over the tip of the pitot tube being the wrong color!!!!!I would not have known that that gourous tankshould not have had side skirts but they looked too clean to my eye! I saw a guy on 1995 IPMS Albqur.Nats, loose first place in 1/48th air craft becouse his gorous zero was very well weathered on the out side? but kinda clean in the copit and it was totaly scratch built copit! he did not even place, that is when I gave up competing! some "know it all "with a flash light and a magnerfirer killed the guys dreams!( it was not me or my plane, I took first in motor cycels) that Is why I like our small tantlted group

Oso, the way IPMS contests are run is why we formed the Secret Society and made WinterFest into an open format judging contest. A modeler should be rewarded based on how he or she constructed the model and compete only against themselves, not against fellow modelers. It is about the basics, not about research. I like to build accurate models, but not at the cost of spending hours and hours researching and/or spending hundreds of additional dollars on aftermarket stuff. Okay, maybe if I want to build the Battleship Washington when she beat up on Kirishima, then I need to spend time doing research, but if I just want to build a North Carolina class Battleship then I am trusting the manufacturer to do the research and give me a reasonably accurate kit to build. Or I see the need for a resin cockpit for a Lindberg F-90 fighter, but not so much for a 1/32 Tamiya A6M2.
IPMS competition tends to take the fun out of building models as a hobby...... I like to "talk models" and see built models, I like to build things that are different and not seen everyday. I like different markings or color schemes (How many Bulgarian Tanks have you seen?) and I like to have the comradship of other who understand that building a model is different than buying a die-cast replica.
errrr, back to the Pzr IV..... I visited discount hobbies to get some pigments to help out the skirts on this kit, but they are out of stock until Saturday. So, I will go back then and get them.

Hey Dan.. ;D That Panzer IV is getting better, work more on those filters and use some washes...try some waterbase paints from blick and add some pastels to add dust.... Count with me for the Winterfest I will be doing the same like last year just send me the right date and hours to be ready. Keep building hard for me..this year was kind slow on the hobby for me...say hi to Angelica and the guys...I miss my club, but next year I will be there, I will be off friday nights... Bye...
