Well, I guess I am on an aircraft roll....... Thinking ahead to the next display at the library which is the San Diego aircraft industry I am going to make sure there is a Spirit of St. Louis for the display. This is probably the single most important aircraft built here. I got the new Revell kit a few years ago and now is the time to build it. I have always hoped they would also do this in 1/72 scale, but not. This kit is in 1/48th and looks pretty nice so far. See, it is a San Diego aircraft. I am disappointed in that they took the easy way out for the instrument panel, it is in the upper left of the decal sheet. But, I am also curious how the decals for the nose will look when applied. Construction as of tonight. ;D

Making progress..... Cockpit is in..... still wish the instrument panel was more than a decal. The engine assembly is almost done, just need to add the push rods and carb. I have painted..... and striped the cowling twice now.... just not happy with it yet. Wings on, seam work started... Landing gear strut assembly has started.... Ahh, the tail assembly..... I had a major f-up here, I glued the elevators and struts under them down last night only to find tonight that I had glued them in the wrong place!!!! %^&&$#@!!!! Thank goodness the plastic is soft, I was able to pry them apart without to much damage. I forgot about the "fin wishbone" that goes between the fuselage and rudder and supports the rudder. trying to go to fast! Well, we'll see how this goes from here.

Decaling has begun, I have been interested how Revell's idea for the jeweling on the nose would look. Here it is..... The decal has a jeweled pattern that you apply over your silver painted surface... Hmmmm, well? The decals are rather thick and didn't respond to micro sol... Revell also should have made each segment a little smaller since there are many compound curves to be covered... after experience with the other decals, i cut the one for the spinner in half... In the end, I took off the spinner decals, they just didn't lay down, the nose came out fair, it was four pieces which i cut into six pieces and here is the result.... Overall, a good idea that fell short. Revell printed the jeweling on the decal in aluminum and white, I don't understand why they didn't leave it aluminum and clear, then the silver paint would of showen thru..... Anyway, not much more to do on this kit.
