I just saw this site posted and took a brief look...... It seems to be video archive from Japans NHK news.
It is of course in Japanese, but has some interesting videos.

The newsreels are organized by month and year and then given both a "reel number" and a "news item number" within each reel.
Of particular interest are the following (the titles are mine):
4/1943 - Reel 148 Part 5 - Darwin raids
4/1943 - Reel 150 Part 1 - Rabaul
9/1943 - Reel 175 Part 4 - Buin
11/1943 - Reel 180 Part 6 - Training
11/1943 - Reel 182 Part 1 - Seaplanes
2/1944 - Reel 194 Part 1 - Rabual
