A new project to be built pretty much out of the box, it is for the USN aviation centennial display at the library. I have had this kit around for awhile. I remember first learning about these as a kid. The navy wanted a fixed wing aircraft that could take off and land vertical for use on smaller ships in convoys and for destroyer / frigates to do air defense. This was one of the ideas, and it even flew! The kit is from Europe, made by KP and in 1/72 scale. It is a decent molding, the panel lines are recessed, but a bit deep. Cockpit detail is poor, we shall see about the fit. Step one is building the massive counter-rotating propellers. More to come.....

Interesting bug Dan , is very unusual to see one of those around, good luck with the project. I guess I should also get started with my Ryans

thank you...... I wish I had your punch and die set for the instrument panel.... I am looking thru my unused instrument panel decals for instruments to cut out with scissors to put on the panel. There is a large open area from the back of the panel to the nose that is open... I have no references on this plane to see what was up there. I hope a google search will find me a picture or two.
I have too many projects for this library display.... I really want to get the SH-2 Seasprite helo done and then the Privateer patrol plane.

Some Pogo progress.... I have been working on sub-Assembly's, which on this kit is the prop and wings and the cockpit. Wanting to keep this from getting out of control I am using things laying around to help detail the cockpit a little bit. This is the left side, I built a "throttle" out of fiber optic rod, and did some drybrushing and detail painting on switches. there is also a old twin 25mm AA mount unused from a ship build, I cot off the barrels, sanded some of the sticky outty thingys and put a piece of 32 gauge solder under it for a cable to the left console.... the "control box thingy" is under the instrument panel on the floor. The right console seemed to have some knobs on it.... after deep thinking I came up with slicing off thin wafers of plastic rod, gluing them down and applying some grey paint on them.... Doh, you aircraft guys have probably been doing this for years.... again a little detail painting and drybrushing and it will be ready to install. the instrument panel I just decided to detail paint and cut up some decal instruments..... Now, when I get a punch and die set..... Another first is using some Tamiya tape for seat belts and shaping some of the 32 gauge solder for buckles and mounting points, after about 5,000 years of modeling for me this will be the first time I have made seat belts for an aircraft. time does make you a better modeler!! Once the seat, rudder pedals and stick are glued in, it will be time to close it up, add the wings and into the paint shop.

Still hopping along on this pogo. I finally closed up the fuselage, everything is done with the cockpit but the seat which I can add later. Time to add the nose air intake pieces, the scoop under the fuselage, and the engine exhaust under the tail, oh, and time for putty! Once that is smoothed out, then the wings will go on. I can't wait for that, this is going to be a strange looking bird.

Almost done too!!! Decals on, I must say that the decals, printed by PropagTeam are very nice, thin and apply easy. We'll see tomorrow once the setting solution is dry.... All thats left is the "landing gear" and pitot tube..... oh, and a final overcoat.

LOL.... weathering, hmmm, I was thinking of dunking it into superglue to "armor" it up againt your Nemesis.....
I am going to try a slight oil wash since the panel lines are so BIG on this kit.
I looked at the decals this morning.... The ProPagTeam decals are awesome! Very happy camper here.

WHAT??? no dark black wash all over to make those panel lines more obvious??? Some will say is to clean... Some people in Spain will say is WAY TOO CLEAN But the people at the Library Expo will love it, and I think it looks great too! Congrats in another well done model
