OK, here is mine, the Tamiya kit in 1/35th. Looks like an "older kit" but not real old. I am thinking of doing a tank from the Herman Goring regiment in overall gray or an overall yellow tank from the Russian winter. Kit box Kit parts I will start work on this after winterfest and completion of the F9F and F7U aircraft (so probably early January, I want to have it done for a contest in Pasadena in March).

WOW I can't belive the prices on this things; my only hope is to keep looking on ebay... I would like an early version with the short 50 mm gun but at this point even an Ausf N with the howitzer will do

Ok, January 10th, construction begins, and as always I like to start with the turret. The Tamiya kit is nice, it has some interior detail, gun breach and commanders seat.

Is this a Tamiya kit? I have to fill seams and ejector pin marks.... Upper hull assembly.... Lower hull assembly.... Turret assembly, The fit of the turret basket was horrible! wth? Ready to start the dreaded road wheels! Should be ready for first coat of paint this week..... I am still not sure if I want an all grey, or all yellow, or a camoed tank!

Dan, this was one of the first "static" models that the big T re-worked back in the mid/late 90s. I have this kit, and am using some resin bits to convert to a N/M version. I also have some PE skirts/hangers that I'll try to incorporate into the build.

How's the VW coming? Is it running??

After a meeting talking about tanks and getting a nice demo on pigments by Brad I got out the airbrush and sprayed my first base coat of Dk yellow (modelMaster) and after it was dried, I thought I would play with the mufflers. This is what I used for it..... First, the MM metalizer "burnt metal" was applied with a toothpick over the muffler. second, a wash of vallejo dk rust was applied and while it was wet, some acrylic sculpture powder was applied.... third, vallejo dk rust was reapplied where the powder showed as white...... and this was followed by pin washes of vallejo light rust, this is what I ended up with..... Stuck on the rear of the tank.... Then I wondered why do we (modelers) go thru all of this sometimes as more pieces were added over what had just been done!!!! ;D Well, back to the bench!

progress report and OPINONS wanted! I have sprayed the tank overall with Dk Yellow (what an ugly color!) I will spray a final coat later, and probably add a green or reb brown cammo pattern also.... But, the question is roadwheels and chipping. I have been working on painting the roadwheels and adding tears to the rubber. What say yee? Should the tear be darker or lighter than the "base rubber" color?? Remembering from when I was a young armored soldier..... I left one wheel in a semi gloss black along with the seam on the wheel. Opionins on that from you model building judges you.... Second part, I have been practicing doing some chipping.... something I have not been to successful with in the past. I am using Vallejo Dk Rust for the chips. Suggestions please! Practice chips along the inside edge of the hatch..... Practice chips on the turret side doors.... How many colors do you use on your chips? I do plan on doing a burnt umber oil wash later, and some washes with the "dot" filter method later.... Perhaps, even some pigments! It is hard for me to decide on how these attempts look, since I see them to much, so I am looking for your opinions and advice. Gabe? Gabe, talk to me brother! Brad, Mike, Jose? what say yee???

Daniel... Finally I can see some real models...(German tanks of course ;D ). You are doing right, the german road wheels are fine, paint them in one color, you can use a black from vallejo or mix with a little dark grey from the same company. The dark yellow is beautifull...1000 times better than the olive green.. ... The chipping is totally wrong..it looks like chicken poo poo... ... the best color is a panzer gray or a burnt amber from vallejo, also use a sponge really fine and do it first on a towel to remove the extra paint, or use a 000 paint brush to do it, do a small part and then move to other place so your brain can reset and when you came back to the fisrt spot it will look different. Also you can see my Panzer IV D for reference, if you are doing a wash with the oils or acrilic go first and then the chipping and at the end the pastels. I can show you how to do it on tuesday around 4pm if you are available let me know... And keep building Panzers of course !!!!
