Prototype:The EMD SD7 is a six axle diesel locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between FEB-1952 and NOV-1953. Power was provided by an EMD 567B 16-Cylinder which generated 1,500 horsepower (1.12 MW). This was the first model in EMD's SD (Special Duty) series of locomotives. Model: HO Scale (1:87) Proto 2000 Southern Pacific Railroad No. 5324 EMD SD7. Its sporting the well known “Black Widow” Paint scheme, I bought the model used from a fellow modeler; other than running it he hadn’t done much with it, I added a Digitrax motor function DCC decoder/no sound. It was in mint condition but too shiny for my likings. I weathered it with www.bragdonent.com powders, the fan blades on top of the hood were painted white to add depth, plus it lacked some details so I added the following: Details West # 109 SP Barrell Head Light, Details West # 111 Fuel Tank Breather Pipe, Details West # 197 Fuel Tank Bracket, Details West # 265 MU Hoses 4 Cluster, and Cal-Scale # 437 Sun Shades. I scratch built the arm rests located under the windows on the cab from styrene, and the vent on top of the nose from crap laying around, both were painted and weathered to match the locomotive.
