;D OK, as I understand this we will build as many as we can and they will all come to the December 2010 meeting. Here is my first entry. The Matchbox, 1/72 scale F-5A "Freedom Fighter" This will be mostly "out of the box", I will try and add a few details in the exhaust, cockpit, and landing gear plus replacing the kit decals (which look bad) with an aftermarket sheet for a Philippine Air Force bird. Looks like a fun little build, it will start slowly as I finish the P-51 red tail.

OK, so it won't be out of the box.... I have decided to try and add a little bit to the cockpit to take away the "look thru" fit of the kit. This is the first time I have done something like this..... I knew I was taking those "Jack Cash" cards for a reason! Tonight I cut one up and super glued it into the cockpit for a rear bulkhead and floor. As you remember Matchbox kits come with a stand and since this kit has a nice pilot figure I am going to mount it in flight, wheels up (this also saves room in the display case)

Let me think what can you use as engine fans and exhaust...

OK, here we are..... The cockpit mods are done. First the seat, painted and throttles added, Instrument panel decal mounted to the "jack cash card"... Cockpit floor, rear bulkhead and seat added... Instrument panel added, along with a control box and wires, Next is to remove the blob of plastic between the two engine nozzles, drill out the engines, and find something to add inside to represent the afterburner cans.

OK, construction continues.... I have separated and drilled out the exhaust nozzles, next I looked for something to make the bare hollow nozzles look better. I found in my ship P/E some spare cable reel ends that I have glued in the "engine bay" to reresent.... um..... uhhhh, well, something up there! ;D glued to the end of the engine bay.... with the nozzles in place... and the pilot was painted since this will be an "in-flight" build. I hope I remember to look thru my spares to find a joystick before I close up the canopy for airbrushing!

Is looking good Dan but are you really going to use that pilot?

Yes I am, The cockpit looks to empty without the pilot so the model is going to be mounted on the stand, wheels up, in flight.

OK steady but slow progress has been made. I have made a good effort to get rid of the seams, sand, putty, sand, putty.... usually I only sand and putty once. Primer is next and that will tell the story on my seams! Pilot AND joystick are in place. Panel lines lost during sanding have been rescribed... wing tip tanks installed... and the canopy has been masked (hate that job!) and it is ready for "Mr. White Surfacer 1000" primer and then aluminum paint.

Here we are as of tonight.... Tamiya Flat Aluminum has been sprayed on the overall airframe..... SNJ Aluminum polishing powder is being applied to certain panels to vary the look of the metal finish.... work in progress.

Just about done.... Panels finished, anti-glare panel sprayed on, ready for decals.. First decal on, micro sol applied...... I hate when they wrinkle, you never know if all the wrinkles will come out! multi pose stand in use, decals almost finished, just the upper and lower wings remaining, then unmask the canopy to see how well I masked it before painting! ;D

Nice Dan, very nice, and fast too The aluminum looks great and I hope the decals dont wrinkle, this model should look very good in a desk; even I am getting a feeling of accomplishment... instant gratification...d**n! what am I doing writing here?, I should go glue or paint something "Marine Corpsish" for my new office desk at work...
