I have been "challenged" by a builder on modelwarships.com to show the 1943 Chikuma since I complemented his build of the 1913 Chikuma. So here we go, this will be a slow build using the 1/700 Aoshima kit (newer kit, with metal turrets and some photo etch) and updated to 1943 or early 1944. This will keep modifications of the kit to a minimum. step 1 was to remove the molded on aircraft handling tracks on the deck and especially the ramp to the flight deck. This will leave a hole in the deck that must be filed, and the linoleum retainers to be replaced as they are sanded away. next will be opening up these openings in the hull side, building a deck under them to add the forward and aft quad torpedo tube mounts that were there. Currently I am looking for tubes to put there...... might be hard to find without destroying another kit to get them.

This is a long term project, it was started "at work" and now with my new route I can't work on it at work. hehehhe, so it will have to wait for room on the bench. I will finish Indianapolis, England, and Cowpens before this ship. Since I will be removing so much deck detail, it will require me learning/practicing new scratch techniques.
