We were also thinking on moving the show from baja to another month because the hot weather but finally dicide to leave it like all years after the san diego show on june.

San Diego Model Expo '08
I had the opportunity to go to the San Diego Model Expo this past weekend and it was very good. OK I did win third place for the uboat (Type XXIII) now retired from competition. And I did win a model in the raffle I really wanted (1/48th Scale Air Cobra USMC).
So maybe I'm biased, but seriously the only critique of the show is as follows:
1. The judges may have overlooked one entire table of models (14 1/72nd scale aircraft mostly multi engine) and not a winner among them (and they were done by one of the best 1/72nd scale modelers in Southern California)
2. The room for the models was too small, they had about 268 on display, but the room needs to double in size for comfort next year.
3. The swap meet ended at 1:00 with a mad rush by vendors to leave and they could have stayed for late buyers
4. The raffle was held outside in blistering heat (not their fault) but if its hot next year move the raffle inside
5. I was paying from the moment I walked in a $2.00 donation to the Museum, another $7.00 for the contest. One flat fee would be smarter. And there were no hand stamps so you just kept telling people "I paid! I paid!)
6. The awards were generic i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd place but no desciption on the plaque of what category you won in.
Now that's pretty easily corrected issues for next years event.
Overall the show was excellent,
~you had a lot of people (and I knew a lot of them)
~a lot of vendors (I knew almost all of them as well-including the ones who grumbled ( bring the same stuff to every show and it won't sell)
~Lots of plaques ( nice ones wooden - I may due that for next year-but we have some surprises for VC09 anyway)
~ a lot of really nice models (one of the club members told me how they had high standards-( he does not get out much as the quality at all shows is very high- the club influence throughout Southern California has elevated everyone)
~participation of other clubs at the events ("car guys" and the Ship Modelers Club)
~and it was at the San Diego Air and Space Museum at Gillespie Field, so you could see the real thing as well!
Reminded me of the old days at Chino.
So this is an excellent venue with only a few corrections to make.
See you there next year.
