Another build for the Coronado Library display..... I have had this kit for a long time, the instructions have 1983 on them, but I got it at some contest vendor room along with a long lost Ka-25 Soviet ASW helo. This aircraft has been under construction for a long time as well. I am glad the library display has given me a goal to help get it finished. I am impressed with the surface detail of this kit, the only drawback is it is raised detail...... I remember seeing these helo's as a teen in San Diego by going to the weekly Navy open house at Broadway pier. Most of the ships visited were Knox class frigates. Had a lot of fun at during these ship visits.... The helo will be in overall "engine grey" strange this color looks a bit blueish. I was surprised to learn the real color since as a kid I thought they were dark sea blue.... I must admit I put a few drops of blue in the mix I sprayed on the helo base coat. I also have a set of aftermarket decals which will help.

For the looks of it, you should have put this one on the "old models" section ;D Candice will love this one, it's rare to see on the table

The Seasprite is coming alone well. It is now masked and ready for a final color coat, then a gloss for decal prep. I have looked and looked (Google is your friend) for pictures to paint the torpedo, there are a lot of pictures of the Mk 46 torp. Most are from surface ships and most are training weapons, finally I found a large image of a SH-3 helo dropping a live weapon. Perfect. So, here is where we are.... It should be done for the quarterly contest and BBQ next week.

This project is still on track. I have started decals and started with a small problem. Thinking there might be a problem with the large yellow warning band decals that go around the rear of the boom, that is the decal i started with. Sure enough, even though these are aftermarket decals they would not conform around the boom. So off it came, out came the Tamiya masking tape and a yellow warning stripe was airbrushed onto the model. After the paint had dried a day or two, decaling began again, this time it was going ok. One problem I have is the decal instruction sheet is very different from the model. Which has made for some interesting choices in decal placement, some of the decals were printed out of register, and other proved impossible to place on the helo due to the differences in model. The decal sheet and instructins have no name on them so i don't know what company printed them or what companys model they are intended for. I don't know of anyone else making a 1/72 scale Kaman Seasprite (Hey, Mr Tamiya!!) Anyway, the helo is looking good, even if not IPMS accurate..... This might be done in time for the quarterly contest.
