Group; Not much of a plane guy, but I do love anything to do with naval modeling. I picked up this old 1/48 (I think its pretty close to 1/50) Revell SBD Dauntless. I picked it up for about $10, and it looks like a good kit to play around with. Looking over the kit, it has some great panel lines and the detail on the outside looks good. OMG!!!......the inside details are just about non existing. Cockpit is bad.....rear gunner seat area is bad. I have the scratch building bug and have had it for a while. A friend gave me some after market parts for a 1/48 SBD and I will try to use as many as I can. I'm doing some research on the SBD while I complete my 1/700 Akagi. Some other groups have told me to can the kit and get a better SBD model. I stick by my model buys and I don't belive in a bad kit. Just some need some extra love! What do you guys think? I'm not given up on the Revell SBD, just need some advice on what should I do as far as scratchbuilding. I have not had time to deal with posting photos and the issue I have with that. COMNAVWIFEPAC will help me, but she also has been busy with work. I will get to them. Start sending some advice on the SBD. Thanks Sam

Group;
Just ordered the the SBD Dauntless Walk Around bood fro Squadron. Should have it in a couple of days. I have been told it is a must have to do any scratch building on any SBD kit. I will keep you all posted.
Thank you, Sam

Sam, I don't know much about Revell's kit, but the book should help. There is probably some aftermarket availiable for the SBD for the Hasagawa kit that might be helpfull....
I am just finishing Sahttered Sword, 3 aircraft attacked Akagi, 2 near misses and one hit. You should build thingy Best's aircraft..... the man who scored the (only) hit which sank Akagi at Midway.
Good luck!

Daniel;
Thanks for the reply. I do have some aftermarket parts for the Hasagawa kit and I'm seeing how I could use them. Getting all my items together and even ordered a new canopy for the kit from Squadron. This will be a bit down the road and plenty of research and planning. Alot of scratchbuilding and dry fitting.
I have nothing but time........I'm up for the challange.
