This time I have to say that judging was, I think, fair and impartial to a degree. Rich Durham asked for volunteers to do some training for their regional contest,(specificaly someone that had no models on the table) and together, they looked at the models and came up with the winners. I payed close attention to the airplane category and I am satisfied with the results. I would have liked to have a second look at the armor and ship categories, but the level of modeling was good. I dont know if, and I dont want to think that IPMS sees SSMB members (or IPMS Baja) as enemies and surely hope, that if this attitude exists, dosn't stops us from buildiing and showing our models to the rest of the attendance that admire all kinds of work. In other words, I hope IPMS' attitud does not stop Carlos from bringing those old and hard to build 1/72 subjects, or Gabriel's panzermania, and Dan's 1/700 fleet. They might not be winners to the picky eye of IPMS, but ther are a delight for myself and other modelers that appreciate a great scale job. ;D

Jose and Carlos
I understand both point of view and positions, but trying to cover the sun with one finger is too much, every body knows what are we talking about and I don't have to mention names, but their is always something that affect us direct or indirect.
To bad that this type of persons just because don't like weathering in models judge really bad..and believe me is not the first time, or if he see that his models will be affected, try to open another category really quick to save his models from not winning...how sad...
We are not against any club or ideology, we just like to be fair and avoid that kind of people, I'ts like I do every year, I help the IPMS San Diego with all the trophies and plaques, because I love the hobby, and other people don't have to pay the consequences of certain ones...
So enjoy building and show your models where you think is the correct place, for me was the last chance to probe what I always see...and It was probe again...sad but true.
Keep on building...

Don't worry Jose my comment was a reaffirmation of something everyone knows, how many times I have seen the same BF106 win again and again.. Good lord this time it was not in the poll . But like I say is just a reaffirmation or confirmation of the reality. To be honest I don't care what happens there as my only interest is attending the SSMB's meetings and like you say showing my work (good or bad) and talking with the people I consider my friends, I enjoy those meetings were we really discuss modeling matters and were everyone of us counts and is taken seriously as a modeler and as an individual and if the members of SSMB allow me I will continue to attend the meetings. At the same time I invite you and whoever wants to attend our meetings too now that we have new meeting place and a renewed club format as always we want IPMS Baja to be at the forefront of modelbuilding in Mexico's club circuit. regards, Carlos Salazar IPMS Baja

Is it just me...let's talk about that soldier figure ...the lines on the face, the "shadows" on the pants...I mean...does it look real? It might look ok if you see it from a mile away, but up close? The face looks something out of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video. If the judges beleive that this is a relistic representation of a figure, might as well paint clowns with red noses. But is just my personal opinion... I dont like it...no bronze medal from me.

;D I could award a bronze.... the construction and painting technical points are good..... But, I agree with you Jose that the weathering and painting style are for an art student and not reality. My 1stSGT would have kicked my but if I came to formation with that much make up on! ;D
Like some aircraft and armor that get painted over artistic, they just don't look real, but they do look pretty. I thought thats why they made Sci-Fi modeling for the paint artists!

Talking back about the figure... ..I understand your comments guys and also the point of view of the modeler, he is an artist not a modeler, and if you se the figure like art I give a 1st place and a gold medal but on modeling way is 10% real....the figure looks like a death zombie and the color tones are to much exagerated if we see it in a modeling way I repeat. Maybe in spain was a gold... but no here...
