Daniel-san;
Thanks for the info. Did you sand down the flight deck and re-scribed it or is it the original?
Did you airbrush the flight deck or brush paint? Your deck colors came out great.

Sam, this kit was not worth sanding the deck and rescribing to me, there were just to many things badly molded to fix. I did look at the Ryujo build by Lars A. and he shows a nice scribing tool made from 14 x-acto blades, 1 blade normal, the next turned so it won't scribe (used as a spacer) and so on, he can scribe 7 "planks" in one pass. I am going to try this idea of his. Link from Corpsman, this is a great site for IJN! His Ryujo build is awesome, in his build part is the picture of the scribing tool. www.aeronautic.dk/Warship%20Ryujo.htmThe flight deck was airbrushed Model Master Acryl "Wood", from there I tried to do a "dot filter" with oils and later I used some drybrushing with different shades of "wood". The deck markings, hinomaru, and turndown warning stripes were hand bushed with Vallejo paints. The Vallejo i like for hand brushing, it covers well, but it can be worn away with to much handeling, it needs a clear overcoat when done. I will work harder on the flight deck for the Junyo when I start her. Oh, I also see there is a seller on e-bay selling a IJN flight deck mask....... It has the circle, the arrow shapes painted for wind direction (oops, forgot to paint that on Ryujo!!) and some ship names in kanji (sp?) and the dashed lines. I don't know who, but using the search function should find it quick.

Daniel;
Thanks for the info and yes, I have seen Lars's work and have even emailed him with questions. He paints all of his ships by brush and rattle can also. He is anoter master. I'm reaching out for some help on airbrushing. I don't know how to start and what to get. I don't want to put alot of money into it. I also have questions about a future 1/700 Yamato build I want to start. I'm just waiting on some PE and wont start it till my Akagi is done and in my office. Let me know if you have any tips on airbrushing.

Sam, I think a brush is okay for 1/700 especially with good bushable paint.
For bigger scales, then a spray can or airbrush is needed.
I also posted my .02 cents on airbrushing in the "paints and painting" board here.
Mmmm, the Secret ship Yamato..... hehehehe, what kit? and what time frame are you looking at for her?

Sam, the "secret" to airbrushing is YOU. If I may, I suggest you sit down and talk with a modeler who uses an airbrush on a daily basis. You will quickly learn if it is something you want to tackle. I wished I had learned to properly mix the paints eons ago and I would have been one happy camper!! I didn’t!! Now, to airbrush is a pain in the butt!! In the time it takes me to mix the paint, put into proper container and brush on, I could have finished with brushed it on and onto the next color!! FOR ME – I have more control of the paint and how it turns out on the ships. But remember this – this is my opinion and opinions are like A-holes – everyone has one and they all stink.

Corpsman; Very well put! Well in the very near future I will purchase an inexpensive airbrush and some can air and see how it goes with some cheaper models.
Thanks Sam

Sam, Let me go through my stuff and check to see how many airbrushes I have. Next to my Jarheads, always had a soft spot for Seabees.

Corpsman;
Doc, thanks for the kind words. I'm not looking at picking up an aircompresor yet. What do you think of that canned air that they sell at our local craft store? Sam

Sam, Never used the canned air, no idea. Check with those around you. I have a feeling someone can answer your question. Have you considers air in a cylinder? The initial expense is high but for the number of uses and that it is NOISELSS just might make the initial investment well worth your time. Had I known about it when I first arrive in Colorado Springs, I would have made the investment.

Corpsman;
Sounds like a plan. I will look into all of it before I take the plunge. I will do the research and for now keep building what I have on the work bench.
